COLCHESTER United are still searching for their first point in the Championship after Barnsley staged a strong second-half comeback at Layer Road this afternoon to win 2-1.

The U's were ahead at the break, thanks to Greg Halford's close range header from Jamie Cureton's 42nd minute cross.

But Barnsley took control in the second period. Marc Richards headed them level in the 57th minute, and Brian Howard clinched all three points for the Tykes by blasting home an unstoppable shot from 25 yards out.

The U's have therefore lost their first three games in what is their first ever season in the Championship. They were undone by a long-range shot from Plymouth's Luke Summerfield on Tuesday night, and they were beaten by another speculative shot from distance against the Tykes.

United face a stern test at one of the promotion favourites, West Brom, in their next fixture, so it's proving a tough baptism for new manager Geraint Williams.
