Colchester United have added newly promoted Dover Athletic to their pre-season friendlies’ fixture list.

U’s boss Joe Dunne briefly played for Dover, back in 1999, after being let go by then-Colchester boss Mick Wadsworth, although the Dubliner was soon back at Layer Road following Wadsworth’s departure and the start of Steve Whitton’s managerial reign.

Dover clinched promotion to the Skrill Conference Premier at the end of last season, by winning the Conference South play-offs.

The U’s will take on the Kent side away from home on Friday, July 25 (7.45pm kick-off).

Here is an updated list of the U’s pre-season friendlies for this summer:

Sat, July 12: Brantham Athletic (away 3pm)

Tues, July 15: Heybridge Swifts (away, 7.30pm)
