WAYNE Brown believes that his old club Colchester United will avoid relegation this season, following Saturday's 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium.

Hull City defender Brown came close to stealing a dramatic late winner for the hosts, only to be denied by a tremendous reflex save from Dean Gerken, the keeper that he used to try and protect rather than beat!

“I honestly think that Colchester will stay up,” said Brown. “If they play like that every week, then they'll have no problems.”

“Their new players have made a difference, and Scottie (Scott Vernon) and Platty (Clive Platt) made it difficult for us. They led the front-line well.

“Colchester made it awkward for us. They got on the front foot and created several chances. They didn't allow us to get going.

“There's a different type of pressure on me, now that I'm at Hull. We want to go up, while Colchester just want to stay in this division. Hopefully, they will stay up and we'll make the play-offs.”

Johnnie Jackson fired the U's ahead with a stunning right-footed shot early in the second-half, only for Fraizer Campbell to head home a 64th minute equaliser for the Tigers, and so keep Geraint Williams' men in the bottom three.
