Wright has taken the competition by storm in his debut campaign on the big stage, and after last night’s showing in his native Scotland, climbed to the top of the pile.

In truth, ‘Snakebite’, sporting colourful and flamboyant Scottish attire, demolished Lewis in the opening match in Glasgow last night, with the Mendham-based star beginning with a 180 from his first visit before taking out a 119-finish to win the leg.

In a one-sided affair, Wright rounded things off by landing double 10 and stun Lewis 7-1.

And with previous leader Michael van Gerwen losing to fellow Dutchman Raymond van Barneveld 7-5, Wright now enters week five as the only competitor so far to remain unbeaten.

“This is the greatest atmosphere ever, better than the World Championship,” ‘Snakebite’ said afterwards. “We’re not here to watch paint dry, we’re here to entertain the crowd.”

Next up for Wright in Exeter next Thursday is Robert Thornton, another Scot, who drew with Wes Newton 6-6 last night.
