SUDBURY Upper School's U16 rounders team will be representing Suffolk in the National Finals for the second year running after coming out on top in a number of regional competitions.

The route to this major event has been an exciting one for all involved starting with the Western Area tournament, held at Sudbury Upper School on Tuesday May 6. The tournament finished as a three-way tie between Sudbury Upper School, County Upper and Stowmarket - but Sudbury won with a points difference of 10 to 6 and

2 ½ respectively for County and Stow.

The County Final was equally as eventful with SUS's final deciding game being once more against County Upper. Sophie Childs played brilliantly, catching several players out within the diamond while the four deep fielders managed to catch eight players out over two innings. Their accuracy of fielding to posts also helped prevent County scoring and ultimately played a major part in securing their place in the Nationals, which will be held in Corby on July 5.

“This is a place they all really deserved,” said head of girls PE Dianne Banthorpe.

“The girls should all be congratulated. We were certainly very pleased with their performance and proud of the title they have won.”
