Ipswich Town have signed young Manchester City winger Alex Henshall on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old – who was regularly capped at England Under-17 level – has been on trial with the Blues for the last week and could be in the squad for tomorrow night’s Championship game against Derby County at Portman Road if the paperwork is completed in time.

A direct-running wideman, Henshall started out at home town club Swindon before being recruited by Manchester City at the age of 16. He has had brief loan spells at Chesterfield and Bristol Rovers in the last two seasons.

The ‘emergency’ loan window shuts on Thursday and Ipswich Town are hopeful that they will be able to extend Jonny Williams’ temporary switch from Crystal Palace to the end of the campaign. As it stands, the Welsh international’s current deal is due to expire following Saturday’s visit of Nottingham Forest.
