Football: Aston Villa will be the biggest attraction of Colchester United's pre-season campaign, after it was unveiled yesterday that the Premier League side will visit the Weston Homes Community Stadium for a friendly on Tuesday, July 21 (kick-off 7.45pm).
Villa are managed by Martin O'Neill, who current U's boss Paul Lambert used to play under during his days as a midfielder at Celtic.
Meanwhile, a young and inexperienced Colchester Reserves side lost 1-0 to Leyton Orient's second string in a Combination fixture yesterday afternoon. Former U's boss Geraint Williams was in attendance, in the build-up to this Saturday's League One contest between his O's side and his old team. Jake Argent scored the winner for the O's in the second period.
