Villa boss Martin O'Neill is a big admirer of winger Bentley but he won't go over the 10m mark for the ex-Blackburn star.
He tried to sign Bentley last summer but was pipped by Tottenham, who splashed out 15m.
Bentley, 24, has made just 24 appearances at White Hart Lane and Harry Redknapp would be happy to unload him.
O'Neill will give him a second chance - but only if the price is right, despite being handed a sizeable transfer kitty in his bid to crack the Premier League's elite top four.
Villa's billionaire American owner Randy Lerner will put around 30m at his disposal - plus the 12m received from Manchester City for Gareth Barry.
O'Neill also has his sights on defender David Wheater and his Middlesbrough team-mate Stewart Downing.
