Women’s League Cup Norwich City Reserves 1 Ipswich Town Reserves 6 A hat-trick from midfielder Paige Wakefield led Ipswich Town to an emphatic 6-1 win in the East Anglian derby away at Norwich City.

Tori Campbell opened the scoring in the League Cup match, before a double from Wakefield had Town 3-1 ahead at half time.

Wakefield went to complete her hat trick after half-time as the Tractor Girls ran riot with Flo Cage getting in on the action before Campbell bagged her brace.

It was a game with lots of endeavour but lacked a bit of quality as players struggled to adapt to the 3G surface early on.

The deadlock was broken after just minutes as Campbell’s 25-yard shot flew over the keeper into the roof of the net.

It was a bright start from the girls and Wakefield soon had her first after a corner was not cleared properly and her tame effort somehow bobbled past the keeper.

Norwich pulled one back from full-back Summer Ward, who showed great technique to rasp a bouncing half volley wide of the area into the top right-hand corner, giving keeper Danni Clarke no chance.

But just on half-time, Town restored their two-goal cushion as Wakefield smashed in a similar effort to Campbell’s opener, fairly central from about 25 yards which flew over the keeper’s head.

Norwich started the second half strongly but for all their effort there was no real cutting edge and soon they found themselves 4-1 behind.

Wakefield, who was the stand out player, picked up the ball 30 yards out and intelligently chipped the ball over the keeper who was off her line – it was a delicious chip that didn’t even bounce as the net bulged.

It was to be a quick-fire double as minutes later Cage ran through on goal before hammering her shot into the top right-hand corner, giving the hapless keeper no chance.

The game petered out after that but there was just time for Campbell to grab a second with a bullet header from a corner five minutes from time.
