The Bramall Lane club were relegated from the Premiership on Sunday after losing 2-1 to fellow strugglers Wigan.
Warnock recently turned down a new contract, claiming the offer - worth around £750,000 had the club remained in the Premiership and £450,000 after relegation - was not acceptable.
