IPSWICH'S Ashley Watling and his partner Dominic Hodgson went out of the boys' doubles at Junior Wimbledon yesterday.

The pair were defeated 6-2, 7-6 in the second round by the Australian duo Alex Sanders and Mark Verryth

Watling, 18, and Hodgson had progressed from the first round after saving match point in an epic match against fellow British pairing Niall Angus and Michael Thompson.

They lost the first set 6-4, but came back to win the second set on tie break, before taking the third 6-4.

After the match on Court 14, Watling said: “The crowd went wild when we saved the second set and the court was pretty packed by the third. We just went for it.”

Watling, who was handed a wild card entry to Junior Wimbledon, was also knocked out in qualifying of the singles competition by Canadian and No.2 seed Milos Raonic, who beat the Suffolk youngster losing 6-3, 7-6.
