Watson slams boo boys

COLCHESTER United midfielder, Kevin Watson, launched a stinging attack on the minority of home fans who booed their team last night.

Midfielder David Norris netted a deserved late equaliser for inventive Plymouth, so cancelling out Kevin Lisbie's 56th minute opener.

It was disappointing to concede so late in the game, but the experienced Watson had no complaints with the result. However, he had more than a few complaints for a few of the Layer Road boo-boys.

“I'm very disappointed that we were booed off at half-time, and again at the end of the match. Those people might as well stay at home and watch Coronation Street instead!” blasted Watson.

“There was probably only 10 or 15 fans who were booing, but it's a very tight ground and the lads could hear them.

“It's important to remember that we were a mid-table League One side only a few seasons ago, in 15th or 16th spot, and before that the club was in League Two (old Nationwide Division Three).

“People should remember how far we have come, before they start venting their anger at the players. We always knew that this second season in the Championship was going to be tough, especially with so many players leaving over the summer,

“It was always going to take time for the new players to bed in, and we need all the supporters to be behind us.

“We are not the force that we were last season. That's been our downfall, conceding too many late goals. Plymouth put us on the back foot.

“We shouldn't have been holding on for the last 10 minutes, because we were the home side. Dean Gerken (keeper) made some great saves, but he should not have been that over-worked.

“Dean deserved to get a clean-sheet, but I reckon that as a team we were fortunate to even get a point,” added 33-year-old Watson.
