CLOSE, but not close enough.

CLOSE, but not close enough.

That was the verdict of Colchester United boss John Ward after today’s 3-2 defeat at Huddersfield Town.

The U’s were 2-1 up at half-time, through goals from Kayode Odejayi and Michail Antonio, but in the end they left West Yorkshire pointless after conceding a Jordan Rhodes brace and a 63rd minute winner from Lee Novak.

“I’m disappointed because we were ahead in the game, and got extremely close to a team who I think is going to get promoted,” explained Ward.

“They have been on an exceptional run (unbeaten in 25 league games), and we got as close as we could to them today, without getting something out of the game.

“I would have taken a draw before the game, if you had asked me that, because it’s always tough coming to Huddersfield.

“We’ve given them a good game and given them a few scares, but we have got to try and improve on that,” added Ward.
