Dean Greygoose is looking for his Mildenhall players to grab games by the ‘scruff of the neck’ as they look to get their first win of the season in Bostik North.

‘Hall travel to Grays on Saturday afternoon (at Aveley) and then entertain Dereham on Tuesday night at Recreation Way.

With three draws from their opening five games, Mildenhall are third bottom of the table. But Greygoose knows it’s early days and he feels his team have deserved more.

“Yes, I’m a little bit disappointed not to pick up a win by now, of course I am,” he said.

“But we have probably deserved more, missing penalties, making mistakes.

“It’s a new team and the balance isn’t quite right yet. But we are causing problems against teams, we just need a tweak or two.

“The good thing is we are getting hard to beat, I just need a player to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and win it for us.

“Once we get that first win, I’m confident we will be up and running.”

Mildenhall are in their second season at Step 4 after a rollercoaster first season last campaign which saw them go on some decent league runs, cup and trophy victories, but also a dramatic slump that saw them end the season third bottom.

“When we were in the Thurlow Nunn league there were perhaps four or five teams you were virtually guaranteed victory against,” Greygoose said.

“But at this level it’s totally different.

“You only need one or two players off and that can be the difference in a match.

“Football has come along way since I played and non-league especially.

“The quality of players is so much better. 98% of academy players don’t make it, so many drop into non-league. They have been coached well and there are no mugs anymore.”

Mildenhall travel on Saturday to Grays to play on Aveley’s 3G pitch. It’s followed by the Dereham clash on Tuesday.

“I like to play attacking football, I’m not really a manager who sets up to defend,” Greygoose said.

“There is nothing majorly wrong with what we are doing. We just need that win.”
