WEST Ham are one of many clubs showing an interest in Roma's star striker Julio Baptista.

The Hammers' manager Gianfranco Zola has identified a need to strengthen their strike force and has been searching through Europe with hope of finding a solution.

West Ham's current financial situation means they can only afford a loan deal, however, Roma are rumoured to be interested in a cash sale only. The 27-year-old striker cost an initial 8 million and moved to the club last summer.

The Brazilian-born goal scorer has only served 12 months of his original four-month contract. Roma are willing to let him go in order to free up funds to further strengthen their squad.
