West Herts 1 Harleston Magpies 5

Harleston travelled to Watford this weekend to take on West Herts who are bottom of the league. After a delyaed push back and a very good warm up Magpies burst out of the blocks putting West Herts on the back foot. Toby Tibbenham came close early on with a couple of early shots, Tristan Baynes also came close but the West Herts keeper pulled off two brilliant saves to keep the scores level. Magpies eventually found a break through following good play down the left Stuart Leate slotted home at the back post with the ball taking a cheeky deflection off the umpire. Going a goal down woke West Herts up, as West Herts started to play well Harleston found themselves on

the back foot struggling to keep the ball for long periods of time. West Herts equalised with a well struck short corner. Despite lots of hard work upfront from Neil Toulson and Richard Ling the teams ended up going in level at half time.

Harleston started strongly again in the second half creating many opportunites, the team were eventually rewarded when David Ling deflected the ball home from a well worked short corner. After the goal Harleston played with more confidence and when West Herts were reduced to 9 men, for a

brutal foul on keeper Iain Martin, Magpies had more time on the ball.

Harleston's next three goals came from hat trick hero Hipwell. He opened his account with a blinding first goal, before cutting inside to flick the ball home for his second 5 minutes later. Hipwell saved the best till last when again he cut inside but this time nut megged the defender and the goalkeeper with his powerful shot. David Francis nearly added to Magpies tally but again was denied by an excellent save from the West Herts keeper.

Magpies played out the game with good defending from James Waters, Tom Sumner, Carl Sitch and Leigh Sitch. Harleston prepare for next week in high spirits for a massive game against Cambridge City.
