Team Bury maintained their assault on the Essex and Suffolk Border League Premier Division title with a comprehensive win over Earls Colne.

The youngsters produced a fine display and notched another three points on their travels.

On a fantastic playing surface, Bury were ahead inside the opening five minutes through Alex Steed. The visitors were well on top for the rest of the first half and sealed the match with three goals in the five minutes before the interval.

First, Craig Nurse turned well on the edge of the box and fired the ball into the bottom corner. Soon after Jonny Miller found himself clear of the Earls Colne defence and coolly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper. Ben License made it four when he too found himself clear. He cleverly danced around the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Elliot Hunter and Craig Nurse added two further goals in the second half to make the final score 6-0.

Sports Academy rugby players were in training over the two weeks of the Easter break. They played Thurston RUFC last Wednesday, winning 24-15.

With three players missing since the game against the Sale Academy just before the holidays, this match enabled the new players to bed in. It gave an opportunity to players who are joining the academy next season to see the current crop in action. They were also able to help out Thurston, playing as rolling substitutes.

This was an ideal test for our boys. They did not back down in the face of Thurston's physicality. The match was part of their preparations for the Elite Colleges Cup Quarter Final yesterday, against Oaklands College, the academy side for Saracens. More on that next week.

We will soon be setting a date for the trial game for those lads joining the academy next year. Things look exciting for next season with some very talented ball carriers coming to join us. Anyone interested in the trials should contact Ben Cooper or Nigel Brown, on 01284 716237.
