Whitton United boss Shane Coldron is expecting a much tougher afternoon when his side host Diss Town on Saturday.

The King George V Playing Fields side beat Diss 8-0 when they met earlier in the season, but Coldron is not expecting a repeat of his side’s comfortable win against a team which has improved significantly since the October clash.

Whitton head into the game with plenty of confidence, on the back of their 5-1 victory at AFC Sudbury reserves last time out, but Coldron has insisted he and his players are fully aware of the threat his side pose.

“We go into this one with plenty of confidence after a good win in our last game, but we had a couple of disappointing results when we were knocked out of the Suffolk Senior Cup (to Leiston, on penalties) and then lost to Braintree,” he said.

“We weren’t at our best in those games but it’s good to get back to winning ways ahead of what is sure to be a tough game.

“Diss have had a little bit of a resurgence since we last played them, when we beat them 8-0, and they’ve come up with a few results so it will be a much tougher game I’m sure.

“King’s Lynn are the only scalp they have taken from the top half but they’ve brought in a few players and will be a tougher game for sure.”

Coldron has a selection headache this weekend, with 18 players available due to the lack of a reserve fixture, and has two new faces in his squad following the signings of midfielder Kevin Inglis and goalkeeper Harry Lay-Fulcher from Leiston.

“Kevin has had a number of different spells at the club and knows us well so it’s great to have him back,” he said.

“We have quite a young team so to have his experience will be great, while we have also signed Harry from Leiston.

“He is a good young goalkeeper who was Leiston’s number two. He knows a few of the players here so will be a good addition.”

“I have a bit of a selection headache this weekend but that’s a good problem to have, though, especially considering we have a run of matches coming up over the festive period.”
