WHITTON United are assured of one vote when member clubs decide of whether the Ipswich-based outfit should play in Division One of the Ridgeons League next season.

Needham Market chairman David Bugg has confirmed that his committee has already decided to vote in favour of Whitton at this summer's league annual general meeting.

Whitton pulled their first team out of the Premier Division mid-way through this campaign, but kept a side in the Ridgeons reserve league.

The league is leaving it to clubs to vote on whether they should play in Division One next term.

“I don't blame Whitton for keeping a team at reserve level and pulling out of the Premier Division,” said Bugg. “I blame the league.

“They can be a powerful force still in the Ipswich area, and it would be churlish not to support them.

“You never know when you might be in trouble yourself with football being full of ups and downs.”

Whitton have appointed former Norwich City, Newcastle United and Tottenham winger Ruel Fox as their new director of football, and he has written to all Ridgeons League clubs setting out why they should be supported at the annual general meeting, and it remains to be seen if they win enough backing.
