COLCHESTER United boss Aidy Boothroyd believes he has the best goalkeeper in League One in the form of Ben Williams.

The 27-year-old former Manchester United trainee has shown great character after conceding 12 goals in two games at the start of the year to produce some scintillating form for the U's in recent weeks.

After watching his keeper produce a stunning man-of-the-match performance in the 1-0 win over Oldham last weekend - Williams' 14th clean sheet of the season in all competitions - Boothroyd was full of glowing praise.

“I think he's in the top one for this division; there's a Brian Clough quote for you,” said the U's boss.

“He's been fantastic. He's got an invincibility about him whenever he trains or plays where you think nobody will get past him.

“If he has got a downfall it's that he doesn't think he's as good as I think he is.

“I think he's got a really good chance of playing at the top level.”
