GAVIN Williams is set to go out on loan in a bid to resurrect his career.

Although Williams would prefer a move nearer family in south Wales, the midfielder may go to another Championship club this week.

Injuries have hampered Williams progress and he has not been able to make Jim Magilton's initial 18-man squad in recent games, never mind a place on the bench and will be allowed to go out this week.

Luton boss Mick Harford was at Playford Road as Town reserves beat Northampton 1-0 and is understood to have also been running the rule over Liam Trotter and Michael Synnott, although will not be able to sign players until the club comes out of administration.

Scouts from West Ham, Cambridge United and King's Lynn were also at the game.

Blues boss Jim Magilton has made it clear that while he wants to bring in one or two more players this week he is ready to ship some out.

Magilton said: “If a move came around for some of these lads that will help their career then I would not stand in the way.

“There are some that we hope to get out over the next few days or so.”

The Town boss is known to be in the market for an experienced striker and defender with David Nugent topping his list, and fellow Ulsterman David Healy also a possibility.

But reports that Newcastle defender David Edgar is a likely loan signing are wide of the mark as Town aim to bring in experienced players proven at Championship level.

Magilton said: “I would like one or two people in. We are looking for favourites who we know can do it. If we can bring someone in who can help this team then we will get them in.”

While he may admire Darren Ambrose who has also been linked with Town, it is highly unlikely Charlton would allow one of their most consistent scorers of late will join their play-off rivals.

Magilton missed the reserve team win as he was in London for the Big League Weekend 2 programme but will be back this morning as Town train for the game at stoke this weekend.

Also in training will be David Norris who has had an injection for a heel injury but is fully fit and fine and will be available for the weekend.

It is doubtful he, along with most of the Blues starting team, will play in the behind-closed-doors friendly against Galway United tomorrow (WEDS) but back up keeper Nick Colgan is expected to.

The Irish side are over in Ipswich for the week as part of their pre-season training with their first league match on March 7, as a favour to their manager Tony Cousins who was with Magilton at Liverpool as a teenager.
