It’s Ipswich Speedway’s press and practice day and MIKE BACON was there
Ipswich Witches held their press and practice day at Ipswich Sports Club today ahead of what is a huge season for the Foxhall Heath-based club
The Witches are back in the sport’s top league, the Premiership, and will led by Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris, who takes over the No.1 race jacket – a former Grand Prix star.
Danny King, who suffered an injury-hit 2018 is back and already bagged third place in yesterday’s Ben Fund Bonanza individual at Leicester.
So, here is a diary of the action throughout the day.
9.54AM. Arrival at Ipswich Sports Club
The Witches are all here and the place is buzzing with anticipation. Early pic with new Witch Chris Harris, who is chatting to Danny King and Ritchie Hawkins.
10.15AM: Chat with Chris Harris.
The new Witches No.1 is already enjoying life with his new team mates in Suffolk.
“We have a good team spirit here and looking to enjoy ourselves,” he said.
“I haven’t ridden at Ipswich much over the years but am looking forward to it.”
10.25AM Buzzing here at Ipswich Sports Club with the Witches in the Premiership, it has grabbed media attention.
Cameron Heeps admits he has never been in better shape.
“I’ve trained and trained this winter a lost a lot of weight. I’m looking forward to getting the fruits of all this on the track.
11.01AM Danny King happy with his arm injury
Ipswich skipper Danny King admits his arm injury has healed up well after he came third at the Ben Fund Bonanza meeting at Leicester yesterday.
“I must admit I was a bit nervous to be honest,” he said.
“But it all went well and I’ve had no reaction.”
11.20AM The new team picture is taken.
All the Witches looking resplendent in their new kevlars. General opinion is they are very smart.
12.12AM Podcast done and dusted!
Just finished doing a speedway podcast with the team, as well as Chris Louis, Ritchie Hawkins and special guest Kevin Long.
That will be out tomorrow, so listen out for that. Some great laughs and chat from the boys....
12.22AM Team tucking into lunch
After a mass of interviews, photots, videos and even podcasts!, the Witches of 2019 are sitting down to a lunch mostly of steak! I’m off for a Maccy D and strawberry thick shake!
2.15PM Practice begins
Yes, after months of no speedway, the bikes roar again at Foxhall and all the riders take to the shale.
Plenty of fans come up to see a first glimpse of the Witches 2019.
Later tonight, there will be a Meet The Riders night.... And the first Witches meeting of the season is almost upon us.
