IPSWICH ‘Sackers’ Witches go into the Easter break in buoyant mood.

IPSWICH ‘Sackers’ Witches go into the Easter break in buoyant mood.

Despite opening night injuries to Morten Risager and Taylor Poole, the Witches have quickly re-grouped and, in no small part to the good work of the Foxhall management, have got their season back on track smartly.

Too quickly flak has thrown at the Witches promotion for moving too slowly, or not reacting fast enough in certain situations.

However, so far this season that cannot be said.

As soon as Poole and Risager’s injuries were know, Leigh Lanham was drafted back into the team, with continuity restored.

This afternoon the Witches entertain Leicester Lions at Foxhall Stadium (2.30pm), with the home side hoping to gain a quick-fire double over a team they beat easily in the midlands on Saturday night.

With kids going free and an Easter Egg hunt on offer, Good Friday has often been a chance for people to experience the thrills and spills of live speedway at Foxhall Stadium.

Today the return to Foxhall of Lasse Bjerre is sure to bring the crowds in. Bjerre, brother of Grand Prix star, Kenneth, was an immediate Ipswich favourite last season, ending the year as Witches No.1.

What he lacks in gating ability, he more than makes up for in daring round-the-board riding.

With Kauko Nieminen and Magnus Karlsson alongside Bjerre, the Lions have a strong heat-leader trio.

But the home side will expect to counter-act that with their more balanced team, including two strong reserves, Cameron Heeps and Rohan Tungate.

Heeps and Tungate have done outstandingly well in the first few weeks of the season.

Both have shown maturity, guile and no little skill, picking up double figure returns between them week on week.

With Lanham, Dakota North and Kevin Doolan providing a solid heat-leader trio, the Witches will be hoping Frenchman Mat Tresarrieu can come to the party – his scores so far not being as good as he would have hoped.

The Witches currently top the Southern section League Cup group and know three points today will edge them closer to the chance of early season silverware.

Gates open at 1pm, kids go free with an Ipswich Star voucher, while an Easter Egg hunt also takes place.
