PETERBOROUGH Panthers have swooped to try to buy Danny King from the Ipswich Witches.

The offer, believed to be £10,000, was received by Ipswich over the weekend, but has been flatly rejected by the Foxhall management who stress King is not for sale.

This latest twist in the King loan deal saga looked set to put more strain on the already troubled relationship between the two clubs.

However, instead of more explosive hostilities, after King's attack on the Suffolk club last week, both parties have poured cold water on their recent war of words - with King himself retracting some of his comments.

The 20-year-old admitted he was wrong to say some of the things he did last week and he claims much of it was taken out of context.

King said: “I'm pretty upset with the way all this has all come out about my 'Ipswich hell' and how I can't wait to leave the club.

“That's not the way I feel, but I'm not going to pretend I wasn't disappointed with the way my loan was handled by Ipswich.”

King also claimed last week he had, “been messed about by Ipswich and didn't want to ride for them again.”

It caused shock to Witches promoter John Louis, who felt he had helped King a great deal during his years at Foxhall.

King added: “I do want to say thanks to John Louis for all he has done for me at Ipswich. All I really said was that I felt a move would further my career and I never said I didn't want to ride for Ipswich again.

“The fans at Ipswich have always been great to me and they are the last reason I would ever want to leave Ipswich.

“But, as I keep saying, I see it as a career move - a chance to ride at a track I know well.”

Witches skipper Chris Louis, instead of being inflamed by King's outburst, has held out an olive branch to the youngster, saying he hoped he will ride for the club sometime in the future.

Witches captain and manager Louis said: “Over the weekend we did receive an offer for Danny from Peterborough.”

“But it is an amount we are not interested in and, quite honestly, we have no intentions of selling Danny's contract anyhow.

“We consider Danny a young, ambitious rider with a big future ahead of him.

“We are pleased we have helped him in his early years and we hope he will ride for us again in the future.”
