Woeful Witches crash out of the KO Cup

Workington 61 Ipswich 29. Agg 96-84

IPSWICH ‘Sackers’ Witches crashed out of the KO Cup after a hapless performance at Workington on Saturday night.

With a 20-point lead to defend, the Witches never looked likely or strong enough to hold on and by heat eight their lead had been eaten away.

The Comets were ruthless throughout while the Witches only had four race winners all night - three of them from No. 1 Ben Barker.

He was the only Witch to come out of the meeting with any credit. The performance was described as ‘embarrassing’ by Witches team boss Pete Simmons.

Young teenage reserve Cameron Heeps was taken to hospital after a heat eight fall, but was released having suffered whiplash injuries.

Witches scorers: Barker 11, Hawkins 4, Tungate 4, Risager 4, Lanham 4, Heeps 2, Ellis 0.
