Woodbridge Town boss, Jamie Scales, has said he ‘couldn’t be more proud’ of his side.

The Notcutts-based ‘Peckers have not only won the Thurlow Nunn Division One title, but have done so amassing, up to this weekend, 100 points and 135 league goals.

They also have a Suffolk Senior Cup final against Bungay Town to play next Friday at Portman Road

Quite some season.

“Yes, it has been some season,” Scales said.

“It’s put Woodbridge back on the football map, where they should be. They are back playing at a level they should be. I couldn’t be more proud.”

The Suffolk side just missed out on promotion last season, but they have carried the favourites tag with real strength this season, despite the extraordinary efforts of others around them.

Indeed, Suffolk neighbours Framlingham and Whitton are set to join the ‘Peckers at Step 5 next season, both enjoying super seasons.

“I want to go on record to say how pleased I am for Whitton and Fram,” Scales said.

“Suffolk non-league football is on a real high right now. I think more people than ever are getting into non-league and realising how good it is.

“Look at Felixstowe & Walton the other night... 1,500 fans in attendance.”

But it’s Woodbridge Scales only has eyes for.

He’ll be back at the helm next season and is confident former Ipswich Town and Sunderland star Carlos Edwards will be as well.

“I hope to retain 90% of our squad from this season,” he said.

“Continuity has been the key for us over the last few years. We have kept so many of the boys together.

“Carlos has been superb for us, not just on the pitch, but in the dressing room he is such a class act. He spends time with the fans too, talking to them. I like to think he’s staying next season, I hope so.”

Tomorrow, Woodbridge travel to Whitton for a fixture that if Whitton win could guarantee them runners-up spot, should Framlingham get nothing at Braintree Reserves tonight.

Both teams have cup finals to look forward to as well next Friday – Woodbridge against Bungay in the Senior Cup final, while Whitton play Wisbech St Mary in the First Division KO Cup final.
