Suffolk Senior Cup Bramford United 2 Woodbridge Town 5 Woodbridge Town progressed to the semi-finals of the Suffolk Senior Cup as an excellent second half performance sealed the win against a home side who included ex-Woodpeckers Luke Moss and Harry Burman in their starting line up.
Alex Greggor’s free kick was met by Jake Green after four minutes and his header was on target. Greggor’s corner after eight minutes again found Green but his header missed the target for the Woodpeckers.
The home side took the lead when Kieran Mandley’s free kick hit the bar but he was first to the rebound to open the scoring with a superb finish.
Burman’s shot tested away keeper Alfie Stronge after 22 minutes but after 24 minutes the away side equalised when Carlos Edwards’ cross found Mark Ray and after home keeper Connor Banthorpe blocked his shot he made it 1-1 from the rebound.
Matt Mackenzie’s free kick was on target after 36 minutes then, after 41 minutes, Green’s accurate pass found Ryan Keeble and his cross was met by Mackenzie to make it 2-1 at half-time.
Dale Hammond’s effort was deflected for a corner after 56 minutes and Ray’s header was well saved by Banthorpe on the hour. Mackenzie’s curling shot hit the bar after 64 minutes but two minutes later Mackenzie’s accurate cross found Keeble and he made it 3-1 with a neat finish after 66 minutes for the away side.
Greggor’s through ball after 70 minutes found Mackenzie and, after his first shot was well saved by Banthorpe, he made no mistake from the rebound to make it 4-1 and his second goal as the Woodpeckers dominated.
Substitute James Hubbard’s shot was well blocked by Moss after 82 minutes but the home side hit back after 84 minutes when subJean Pierre Akakp made it 4-2 from an acute angle.
Woodbridge still weren’t done though, as George Bowman’s pass after 89 minutes was well controlled by Hubbard and his excellent lob made it 5-2.
Two late saves by Stronge kept the scoreline at 5-2 but a deserved win for the away side.
