EDITORS will be giving fans a “sneak preview” of their eagerly-awaited new album when they perform at the Latitude Festival on Sunday night.

Ed Lay, drummer with the group, said the band would probably play “three or four” tracks from In This Light and On This Evening, which is due out in October.

The four-piece have been busy recording the album for most of this year and Latitude will be one of only a handful of shows this summer.

“We've always had our eye on Latitude - it seems a really interesting festival with some really good acts,” said Lay, who was born and raised in Ipswich.

“I've very pleased we've been asked along. It's probably the closest I've got to a 'hometown' gig.

“We'll probably play three or four (new songs). It's not the easiest thing to play new songs to a festival crowd but there will be a sneak preview of the new album.

Lay said the new album's sound was more electronic than its predecessors, 2005's The Back Room and 2007's An End Has a Start.

“We've spent a lot of time mucking around on analogue sequencers and it's definitely more synthetic, but with a very human feel to it,” said Ed.

“There is a lot more experimentation, but we didn't want it to sound like we had all logged on to computers and programmed everything. It still sounds like us, with songs crammed with as much melody and fillings as possible; the way we write songs hasn't changed at all.

“I'm sure our fans will be intelligent enough to want to seek out new stuff, not just the same as the last album.

“We're really happy with what we have produced - and we can't wait for everybody to hear it.”
