Framlingham: Ed Sheeran narrowly misses out on number one single
SUFFOLK singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran narrowly missed out on the number one spot in the singles chart tonight.
His debut single as a major label artist, The A Team, was beaten into third place behind Example with Changed the Way You Kiss Me, and Calvin Harris, who went in at number two with Bounce.
Ed, from Framlingham, has already seen his track A-listed by Radio 1, which means it is played by the station about three times a day, and been championed by DJs Fearne Cotton and Zane Lowe.
Last week, the 20-year-old played down talk the song may reach the top of the charts. “I’m prepared for it to go top 40 and I’ll be happy with that,” he said.
Ed, whose music mixes folk and acoustic with hip-hop, signed a six-album deal with Atlantic Records at the start of the year after building up a reputation on the UK live circuit and releasing five self-funded EPs, the last of which got to number two in the iTunes charts.
