Pupils in Essex have been rehearsing with national opera singers in preparation for a production of Hansel and Gretel.

Pupils at Thurstable School, Tendring Technology College and Thomas Lord Audley School have been working with students from Langham Primary, Stratford St Mary Primary and Chase Lane Primary in Harwich to learn about opera and performing.

They have done this in music and drama workshops delivered by the Pimlott Foundation and the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, where the performances will take place. While all students who have participated will see the opera, 50 have been selected to take part in the production alongside professionals from the English National Opera, Scottish Opera and Welsh National Opera.

The performances are on February 11 at 7pm, Feburary 12 at 1pm, February 13 at 7pm and February 14 at 7pm.

Tickets are available from www.mercurytheatre.co.uk or by calling 01206 573948.
