Kirbye Voices, the Bury St Edmunds-based chamber choir, will be carrying out a programme of Christmas music in two local churches in December.
On Thursday, December 20, they will be at Holy Innocents Church, in Church Road, Great Barton, and two days later on Saturday, December 22, in St Mary’s Church, Honey Hill, Bury St Edmunds. Both start at 7.30pm and entry is free with a retiring collection.
In addition to “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and parts of “A Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten, the choir will sing seasonal music by Harold Darke, Ola Gjielo, Bob Chilcot, Philip Stopford, Pentatonix and others.
Also taking part are Yalda Davis (cello), Gilbert Jackson (baritone), Chris Bartrop (organist at Great Barton) and Adrian Marple (organist at St Mary’s).
Kirbye Voices is named after the madrigal composer George Kirbye, who lived and worked in Bury, and most contributed to Morley’s “Triumphs of Oriana” in 1601. He is buried in St Mary’s Church where he was churchwarden.
The choir makes regular visits to sing Cathedral services and recent visits have included St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Ely, Norwich, Canterbury, Coventry and Chelmsford.
