The controversial Gallagher brother closed the first day of the Chelmsford festival and dedicated an Oasis song to someone.
Liam’s Friday set featured some of his new solo material including the hit single “For what it’s worth” but it was also littered with Oasis classics like “Rock ‘n’ Roll star” and “Wonderwall.”
Gallagher went on to dedicate another Oasis classic, “Live Forever” to the late soul singer Aretha Franklin.
The former oasis frontman said: “She had the best voice in the universe.”
The American performer died tragically of pancreatic cancer aged 79 on Thursday, August 16.
Celebrities, musicians and politicians worldwide paid tribute to Aretha and her work.
Liam paid his own tribute to the Queen of Soul, dedicating the Oasis song (originally written by his brother Noel) to her and performed in front of a screen showing Aretha Franklin’s face.
RiZE festival will continue throughout today at Hylands Park Chelmsford with a Stereophonics headlining the main stage tonight.
This is the first year of RiZE Festival, after taking over from its long-standing predecessor V-Fest.
