Filming for the next series of award winning BBC4 comedy Detectorists is to get underway in Framlingham in the coming weeks.

It will be the second series of the sitcom to be filmed in Suffolk, written by and starring Mackenzie Crook, also known for his roles in The Office and Pirates of the Caribbean.

The programme, which will show on BBC 4, follows the fortunes of a group of metal detectorists in the fictional town of Danebury as they search for the next big archeological find.

While filming is not expected to commence in the county for another few weeks, Mackenzie has already been spotted in the area, having visited a restaurant in Ipswich this week.

The series picked up a BAFTA for best scripted comedy earlier this year, and was nominated in the Broadcast Digital Awards 2015, the results of which were announced last night.

The first series was filmed in locations across mid-Suffolk and also featured award-winning actor Toby Jones, former Eastenders and Casualty star Lucy Benjamin and British actress Rachel Stirling.

Managing director of the Framlingham-based Fresh Aspirations Forum Jenny Stockman said: “The difference this makes to the community...Creative England and Channel X really do try to source locally. They stay in local accommodation, they use a local coach company, they rent local business space, employ casual labour locally, use local suppliers for all sorts of sundries, use all the existing networks and do give back.

“It is a significant injection into the local economy with a longer lasting legacy attracting visitors to the film set.

“They really do open their doors to people who just want a bit of experience or want to get a feel for the industry. It creates a talking point for the community and does that corny thing of bringing people out from behind closed doors.”

Detectorists cast and crew have promised to give interviews for the upcoming Fresh Aspirations teen magazine Wavelength ahead of its launch in September.
