MUSIC star Newton Faulkner has been announced as one of the first acts to play the John Peel centre.
Tickets for the gig sold out at a pace of one-a-minute after the news spread on social network websites Twitter and Facebook.
The dreadlocked singer-songwriter played a benefit gig for the centre in 2011. Chairman of the centre, Andrew Stringer said: “It’s lovely to have him back and he will be able to see how the money was spent. The ticket sales were astonishing, it shows there’s a huge amount of people who want to see a well-known act in a small venue.”
Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson will be one of the guests at the formal opening of the centre tomorrow night (February 28).
Newton Faulkner will be performing on March 19.
