As some tired festival-goers retired to their tents for the night, including myself, there were many more who stayed out dancing their way into the early hours. The music had stopped, but their enthusiasm hadn’t dropped at all. How has the excitement not tired these fans out?
Everything on site is really well signposted, so getting from campsite, to arena (and then to food) is pretty easy. It’s hard to miss the two main stages in the arena; they tower above everything else and you can hear both the music, and the fans singing along, from a mile away.
First on the agenda for Saturday was Busted. The line up of V Festival 2017 is made up of a lot of my childhood favourites, these being one. We only managed to catch the end, but singing along was clear that both myself and those around me still knew all the words.
Other highlights of V Festival’s Saturday line up were George Ezra. The singer-songwriter was, as one fan described “perfect easy listening for a Saturday afternoon” and The Vamps, whose chart topping pop hits are ideal for a singalong in the sun.
Bringing more early 2000s classics to the stage, Craig David took the huge crowd who flocked to see him back to his roots with his legendary garage sound, that first kickstarted his career in 1999. Not only did he perform both his original tunes and more recent tracks from his newest album, Following My Intuition, he also showed off other musical talents with a DJ set of some popular R&B and garage tracks from the last decade. TLC’s No Scrubs followed by House of Pain’s Jump Around? Yes, please.
Headlining the night was another artist that brought back a few teenage memories for me, Pink. Throughout the day, we’d mainly been surrounded with people 10 years our junior, but as the last time Pink had released a full album was about seven years ago, the crowd was a little older. I even heard one young festival-goer say, as she walked away from the stage, that it was the worst thing she’d ever heard! How can anyone say that? Pink was, no still is, a household name and her music is a fond memory for every 20-something girl and their rebellious teenage streak.
Day two is set to be just as jam-packed with the likes of on the JP Cooper, The Wombats and Dizzee Rascal on the MTV Stage and Scouting For Girls, Stormzy and Ellie Goulding gracing the Supervenes Stage, before tonight’s headliner Jay-Z.
