A guest at the show on day two was Suffolk soprano Laura Wright who was looking forward to lunch with Prince Harry.

Suffolk classical singing star Laura Wright was not singing at the Suffolk Show, yesterday.

Instead, the soprano, a former pupil at Framlingham College, was having lunch with HRH Prince Harry and presenting prizes in the livestock classes.

She is a great fan of the Suffolk Show and has visited with friends, family and, quietly by herself in recent years.

Laura, looking stunning in a slim, fitted, print top with a peplum flare and white trousers, by designer Fabryan, said: “I’m here because I was invited to have lunch with various people including Prince Harry. I have come here to the Suffolk Show for many years – it’s something to do with family and friends. It’s fantastic for all things agricultural and for so many small businesses as well.

“It’s a chance to dance around and have a drink... or two,” she smiles.

Was it, then an official date, with Harry? Laura laughs: “Not today, unfortunately.”

She said she was hoping to talk to the Prince about their shared interests in rugby – she plays the sport and is also the England rugby team’s official anthem singer – and also the Invictus Games in which Armed Forces Personnel and veterans who became wounded, injured or sick during their service compete, promoting sport as part of the path to recovery.

The last time we met, at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show, Laura was just completing her studies at the Royal College of Music, obtaining a first class honours degree.

Now she is able to devote more time to developing her career in music. “For the first time I’ve been able to concentrate one hundred per cent on my career. I love classical music and wanted to create something different.”

The result is Laura’s new EP, The Sound of Strength which combines her two passions – for the classic and for fitness and sport. “I wanted something that showed that in the music.” It is, accordingly, four pieces ideal to listen to at the gym. They include Barber’s Agnus Dei and Allegretto from Beethoven’s 7th Symphony.

The guest artists on one of the tracks are Laura’s three brothers, Seamus, Paddy and Liam.

Laura Wright has three singing dates in the region over the next few months. She is at Audley End on August 3; at Hylands House, Chelmsford on September 7, and at the Ipswich Regent Theatre on October 15 where she will be signing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
