From the disappointment of missing out on the role of Les Miserables’ Jean Valjean in the West End to rumours of tension on the set of Red Rose Chain’s family fairytale The Magic Fishbone, Scottish salmon skeleton Clyde was in a very chatty mood when I visited him at Christchurch Mansion.

Talking about his upbringing, his inspirational uncle, also a famous actor and the lack of meaty roles for fish skeletons, he was very excited about his latest role.

Centred around the beautiful but poor princess Alicia, who works all day long looking after her 18 brothers and sisters, she has no friends except a ragdoll duchess and Percy Pickles, the fishmonger’s nephew.

One day, she gets a fishbone - a breathtaking Clyde - which will give her anything she wishes for as long as she does it the right moment.

“It’s a vital role. It’s been a gem, an absolute honour to play the part.”

Packed with mystery, romance, songs and loads of laughs The Magic Fishbone, by Red Rose Chain, runs until January 13 at Christchurch Mansion.
