A Braintree Town XI, including a number of trialists, made the short journey to Ryman League Division One (North) neighbours Witham Town and came home with a single-goal victory.
A cross-shot from Pat O’Connor rattled the inside of the Witham keeper’s upright before the break, but Iron had to wait until the 84th minute to break the deadlock, when Jordan Cox tucked the ball home. After the game Iron assistant manager Keith Rowland said: “The lads worked hard on what was a hot and humid day. The key thing is we learned a lot about some of the new faces.”
