An Essex village church will be ablaze with colour at the weekend as it welcome visitors to its flower festival.

The Church of St John the Baptist, in Little Maplestead, near Sudbury, which is also known as the ‘Round Church’, will host the event on Saturday, 29 September, and Sunday, September 30.

The flower festival will start at 10am on both days and will feature more than 20 large flower arrangements each representing local produce.

Reverend Gay Ellis said: “This year is really special as not only do we have the flower festival but as part of British Food Fortnight we have teamed up with both the Essex Ploughing Match and the Harvest Festival at Chelmsford Cathedral to promote local food and farming.”

The Essex Ploughing Match will take place on Saturday at nearby Maplestead Hall, and stalls selling local produce will be present at both days of the festival.
