Some of the best classical music, jazz, blues, folk and pop stars descend on Suffolk this summer for the Snape Proms.
General booking opens on May 15, for each concert more than 100 tickets will be sold for just £6.50.
Kicking things off are the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain who’ll also invite audiences to bring their own ukuleles and join in. Back too are favourites the John Wilson Orchestra and BBC Radio 2’s music show Friday Night is Music Night with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
Jazz and blues fans can experience the cool of Georgie Fame and the BBC Big Band, the New Orleans sound of The Dime Notes and a collaboration between Courtney Pine and soul pioneer Omar. Newcomer Hailey Tuck performs music from her chart-topping debut album while Paul Jones’ all-star quintet The Blues Band celebrates rhythm and blues. For its 30th birthday, The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra teams up with Strictly Come Dancing singer Lance Ellington for a night of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Cole Porter. The season ends with a solo performance from legendary South African jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim.
The folk and roots line-up includes ex-Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden and his new group The Remnant Kings, Altan’s sounds of Donegal, Nashville’s Gretchen Peters and celebrated American baroque orchestra Apollo’s Fire with Appalachian folk classics.
There’s plenty to enjoy in the classical programme, with the Snape Maltings debut of Daniel Barenboim and his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony from memory by the Aurora Orchestra and award-winning classical guitarist Miloš Karadaglic performing music from Bach to The Beatles.
Pianist Christian Blackshaw collaborates with principal players of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the world renowned Takács String Quartet performs music by Mozart, Dvoák and Mendelssohn.
Young musicians have a strong presence, with performances from the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Suffolk Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. There will also be three concerts featuring the Britten-Pears Orchestra, including a family concert with Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.
Snape Proms runs from August 1-31.
