The Seagull Rep Theatre Company, which was resurrected last year thanks to some funding support from Arts Council England, will head out on the road again and tour the region.

The Seagull Rep will take their brand new, visually stylish adaptation of Sherlock Holmes' classic Hound of the Baskervilles on tour to arts venues throughout the region this October.

With the show developed at The Seagull Theatre last year, a new funding boost has given the company the opportunity to take their work out on the road.

Director Mark Finbow said: 'It's great to have this support from Arts Council England.

'It means we can continue what we started and complete this spectacular show.

'We can't wait for audiences to see the visually arresting way we're telling this famous detective tale.'

The Seagull Rep, the resident company at the Seagull Theatre in Morton Road, Pakefield, has been relaunched as a small-scale professional touring company to fly the Seagull's ethos inland by taking famous stories and adapting them for the stage in exciting, surprising and engaging ways.

Karen Read, manager at the Seagull Theatre, said it was 'wonderful news' for Lowestoft to have a professional touring company going out into East Anglia.

Ms Read said: 'We are so excited to see the Seagull Rep on the road again.

'With this support from the Arts Council we will be able to bring more innovative and surprising theatre to rural venues in our region.

'The Seagull has long been committed to transforming the community through the arts, and this rep production will take our mission even further.'

In the lead up to the creation of the new show The Seagull Rep will team up with the Weird Norfolk team to host Black Shuck Café's at several venues across the region. The cafés will be an opportunity for people to share local folklore over a cup of tea.

Mr Finbow added: 'Black Shuck is said to have been Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's inspiration for this story and the fact that we're telling this version in the home region of the infamous spectral hound cannot be ignored.

'We're keen to explore how a specific place informs folklore.'

The Seagull Rep's Hound of the Baskervilles will be on tour from October 1 to October 13 as it visits venues in Bungay, Diss, Sheringham, Southwold, Haverhill, Norwich, Stowmarket, Wells-Next-The-Sea, Felixstowe. The show will begin and end at The Seagull Theatre.
