A golden beer produced by west Suffolk brewery Greene King was given a clear vote of confidence by MPs when it featured as guest ale of the week at Parliament’s famous Strangers’ Bar this week.
The cask-conditioned St Edmund’s brew won its place on the bar at the House of Commons ‘local’ after being recommended by Bury St Edmunds MP David Ruffley.
This was as part of a scheme run by the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group and the Society of Independent Brewers, which represents more than 700 of the UK’s smaller brewers.
Greene King head brewer John Bexon joined Mr Ruffley to raise a glass of St Edmund’s at the Stranger’s Bar to celebrate the honour. He said: “It’s a great privilege for one of our beers to have made it to the heart of government.”
