British machinery manufactured by Ipswich company SCH is helping to maintain the historical De Haar Castle, which is the second most visited castle in the Netherlands. The gothic fairy-tale castle, which was rebuilt from ruins in 1892 until 1912, is surrounded by a 135 acre park containing 7,000 40-year-old trees.

The Dutch agent of SCH has recently supplied a fleet of trailers to help the ground keepers maintain the site.

The trailers, from garden attachment and accessories manufacturer SCH, will soon become an essential part of many tasks around the park. The heavy duty turn table trailer has its wheels mounted under the chassis so that the sides can be dropped down unhindered. The high mesh covered extension sides more than double the trailers carrying capacity, which is good news as the autumn leaves from thousands of trees will soon need removing.

The wide profile wheels give the trailer stability over rough or wet ground, and the chassis is of welded steel construction. The trailer is usually fitted with a clevis hitch so that it can be pulled by a small tractor or ride on mower, but the groundsmen at De Haar requested a ball hitch instead.

SCH has also recently received an order for 12 bespoke trailers from another fellow Ipswich-based conmpany, the garden machinery supplier Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd. The trailers will be used for at golf courses for transporting mowers from the greenkeepers compound to the greens, with each trailer able to take two mowers at once. To ensure the mowers arrive without any damage, the trailers incorporate custom built holding clamps to keep the mowers held down tightly so that they do not move whilst in transit.

The solid chassis is of welded steel construction with the floor and ramp made from weather-resistant wooden boards coated in a high-grip matt rubber, ensuring a long life span for the trailers.

Around £2m of Ransomes mowing equipment is currently being prepared for use in France at the Ryder Cup, which takes place later this month.
