Nearly half of motorists in the East of England would consider changing their job to get away from traffic congestion, a study found.
Research on behalf of Goodyear Tyres found 44% of drivers could quit their job to escape being stuck in traffic, while one in 10 (9%) in the region said congestion had made them feel more stressed than anything else.
The study comes after UK traffic volumes hit a record high between April 2016 and March 2017 of 324.3 billion miles, according to Department for Transport statistics.
The research also found many drivers were looking forward to a future of autonomous vehicles with 42% saying they a driverless car instead of driving in order to relax.
Goodyear Tyres's Kate Rock said: 'The incentives to live in the suburbs look set to increase and could have a significant impact on the make-up of our cities of the future.'
