Adnams has launched tours of the famous white lighthouse in Southwold, which has been inaccessible to the public until now.

The brewer has partnered with Trinity House, the General Lighthouse Authority, to shine a light on an important landmark in its hometown of Southwold.

From Sunday, March 19, Adnams will begin conducting tours of one of Southwold’s most iconic buildings.

Visitors are able to climb 113 steps to the top of the 31m tower and enjoy panoramic views out to sea and the best view of the Adnams brewery and distillery.

Nick Attfield, director of Adnams hospitality and retail, said: “This will be a real highlight for anyone coming to Southwold.

"The views are spectacular and it’s worth every one of the 113 steps to the top."

The lighthouse was built in 1890 and is nestled in the centre of Southwold.

It is still operational and the main lamp reaches 24 miles out to sea, providing an important guide for all vessels navigating the North Sea.

The tours offer a chance for people to look behind the scenes of its daily operation.

Tours start at Adnams' tours centre and lasts for about 50 minutes, at a cost per person of £15.50. Private tours are also available.

The lighthouse tours include a voucher for a rewarding glass of Adnams at The Sole Bay Inn, just a few steps away.

A 10 percent discount voucher for the Adnams shop is also included in the ticket price.

Victoria Savory, marketing manager of Adnams hospitality and retail, added: “We are incredibly proud to be running Southwold Lighthouse Tours.

"The lighthouse has always been an important part of our brand identity, as an iconic symbol in our marketing and packaging. The tour feels like a natural addition for us, and yet another reason to visit Southwold.”

Tours can be booked on the Adnams website or by phone on 01502 727225.
