Edward Williams, a joint administrator for PwC, said: "Active discussions with parties interested in buying parts of the business continue and the administators remain comitted to preserving as many jobs as possible".

"Depending on the outcome of those talks, it is possible that further store closures may regrettably be necessary".

Earlier this week it was announced that B&M would buy up to 51 Wilko stores for around £13 million.

Wilko entered adminstration in August putting 12,500 jobs at risk.
