A section of the busy A14 has partially reopened after it was closed last night due to ongoing flooding issues.

National Highways closed the eastbound carriageway between Newmarket and Kentford at around 2.30am to allow for traffic management adjustments.

These works took place until 4.45am when two lanes were reopened. A pump vehicle has remained on the road to continue to divert water off the road as flooding levels remain high.

National Highways said the flooding issue continues to be a "regional priority" and it is seeking assistance from a number of different agencies.

A large number of vehicles were present at the A14 yesterday to lay pipework and pumps which would help with the clear-up operation.

More than 10 million litres of water have been removed from the highway so far, which is enough to fill three Olympic-size swimming pools.
