A former Peacocks in a west Suffolk town looks one step closer to becoming a shoe shop as advertising consent has been given by a council.
Peacocks, at 3 Gosnold Street in Bury St Edmunds' arc shopping centre, closed its doors in January and in February an advertisement consent application was submitted to West Suffolk Council for a Deichmann shoe shop to open in the unit.
Documents before the council stated that Deichmann Shoes is to undertake the fit out of the shop, with proposed works to the ground floor to create a sales area, staff facilities and a stockroom.
The advertisement proposal sought permission for new "modest" signage with Deichmann branding including a fascia sign to the front which would be 13.8m x 1.4m in size.
It included one internally illuminated 'D' logo, and a set of 500mm internally illuminated individual letters spelling 'Deichmann', both of which were to be in opal green.
On Monday, April 22, West Suffolk Council granted permission for the Deichmann signage.
An officer said the plans "would not have a detrimental impact on the character and appearance of the area or public safety".
