The event was sparked thanks to the fundraising efforts of student Kaina Xavier-Phillips, nine, who decided shave her head to raise money for Help Alexia Walk.

The campaign hopes to send youngster Alexia-Rose – who has cerebral palsy - to America for an operation.

“Kaina wanted to shave her head for the charity and she came to school with all her hair shaved off,” Ellie Jaggs, deputy head, said.

“We’re so proud of her. Alexia came into the school and talked about her story. Kaina said she went home and wanted to do something about it.”

In response, other pupils decided to get involved by sporting their own new hairstyles on May 9, with sprayed-on colours and even cupcakes in their designs.

Thanks to Kaina and the school, more than £1,000 has been raised.
