Bromeswell: British Larder scoops another foodie honour

A SUFFOLK restaurant has added yet another title to its growing collection of awards and honours for culinary excellence.

The British Larder, in Bromeswell, Woodbridge, has leapt 18 places in the last year to be named the UK’s 14th best gastropub.

Preferring to be known as a “pub with a restaurant” owners Madalene Bonvini-Hamel and Ross Pike are nonetheless grateful to be recognised by the Top 50 Gastropub Awards academy, made up of industry chiefs, food operators, chefs and critics.

Mr Pike quipped that the pub may need a new mantelpiece for its accumulation of trophies and certificates. He added: “It’s brilliant for us and for East Anglia as a whole because the Gunton Arms in Norfolk won the highest new entry award.

“The term ‘gastropub’ has become a bit of a cliche due to its use in supermarket food production but we are still very pleased to have been included.”

Mr Pike said that this weekend would be the last opportunity in the game season to try the British Larder’s famous pheasant Kiev and partridge pastille.

Meanwhile, Madeline Bonvini-Hamel will discover at the end of this month whether her cookbook has been named the world’s best at the final of the Gourmand Awards in Paris.
